About Us

Who we are.

The Nigerian-American (NIGAM) Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited, formerly known as NIGAM Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society Limited, was founded in 1972 by the locally engaged staff of the United States Mission in Nigeria with the primary objective of promoting the economic interests of its members. NIGAM Cooperative Society is registered with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives with registration number LSCS 90 of 1974. The Cooperative provides members credit facilities at fair and reasonable rates for provident and productive purposes. As a thrift organization, NIGAM is structured to help members save part of their incomes each pay period so that they are able to build up funds for future use. As of December 31, 2019, NIGAM Cooperative Society has a membership size of 846 local staff of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, U.S. Consulate General in Lagos and all U.S. government agencies including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Foreign Commercial Service (FCS), Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), Department of Defense (DOD), International Narcotic and Law Enforcement, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
